Executive Leadership Program 2018: "Leadership in the Digital Age"

Amidst today's fast-changing digital world, it is vital that leaders take a moment to assess the evolving landscape and equip themselves with the insights and best practices to respond to new workforce demands and new ways of collaborating. This year's leadership development program will be presented through a panel dialogue among senior and executive leaders across industries. Attendees will be also invited to ask individual questions to gain ideas, tips, and best practices to bring back to their own careers. The program will conclude with a networking reception and celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Speakers:

Celeste CarrascoCeleste Carrasco, Director of Public Affairs, AT&T
As Director of Public Affairs at AT&T, Celeste Carrasco is responsible for executing national strategies to achieve corporate legislative objectives; presenting company positions to external stakeholders in key issue areas; and managing community partnerships with non-profit organizations in the Latino and consumer advocacy communities. Celeste first began working at AT&T in 1996 and has held diverse roles in product and team management. Due to her many accomplishments at work, she was selected to participate in the AT&T’s Accelerated Development Program (ADP) in 2011, an intensive program designed to increase business acumen and strategic perspective in preparation for future leadership opportunities. She is a coalition builder at heart and currently serves as the President of the DC Chapter of HACEMOS, AT&T’s Hispanic/Latino employee resource group. Celeste has received numerous awards and recognition for her volunteerism and commitment to the communities she represents, including the MANA award in 2016 and City Year’s Idealist of the Year Award in 2015. She holds a BA from Rutgers University and a Master’s in Management and Project Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. A native of Argentina, Celeste and her family live in Washington, DC.

 

Alex CrowtherAlex Crowther, Senior Research Fellow, National Defense University 
Dr. Glenn Alexander Crowther (Alex) is currently a Senior Research Fellow on NATO/Europe and Cyber Policy in the Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) at the National Defense University in Washington, DC. He is on the teaching team for both Law, Authorities and Warfare and International Challenges in Cyberspace for the College of Information and Cyberspace at the National Defense University; he also routinely teaches and facilitates the Cybersecurity Leadership & Strategy Certificate Program for the Organization of American States. Previously he was selected to be a Counterterrorism Advisor for the US Ambassador to Iraq, a Political Advisor for the Multinational Corps-Iraq (MNC-I) Commander, and a Special Assistant for the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe. Alex has a BA in International Relations from Tufts University, an MS in International Relations from Troy University, and a Ph.D. in International Development from Tulane University. He was also an International Security Studies Fellow at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy.  


Joanna HarveyJoanna Harvey, CEO/Pesident, Laurus Digital
Joanna Harvey, a native of southern California, previously resided in Canada, Argentina, and Germany before calling Washington, DC home. She started her career in 2007 as a digital production assistant for MTV Online and eventually excelled in digital media. So much so that she served as the lead strategist for clients such as Jason Carter for Governor, Lindt & Sprungli, eOne Films, and several Latino nonprofit organizations, including the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Hispanic IT Executive Council. Today she is the CEO of Laurus Digital, a strategic digital media consulting firm that was founded in 2013.

 


Patty HamptonPatty Hampton, Vice President and Managing Partner, Nonprofit HR
Patricia (Patty) is a passionate and committed professional with more than 25 years of extensive expertise in human capital management and executive recruitment and consultation. Patty serves dual leadership roles within Nonprofit HR. As Vice President, Patty is recognized for driving multiple strategies and expanding the footprint for the firm’s Talent Acquisition and Executive Search practice areas. As Managing Partner, Patty co-leads the business and financial strategies of the firm and is a member of the senior management team. She has been with the firm since its inception and has added executive career coaching and outplacement/transition support to the firm’s portfolio of service offerings. Prior to joining Nonprofit HR, Patty served as Director of Human Resources with ASAE, The Center for Association Leadership (formerly known as the American Society of Association Executives) and also worked many years with a large trade association. Patty received her BA in Communications from Trinity University and is a Certified Staffing Professional. Active in the community, she is an ardent volunteer and donor for nonprofits in the DC metro area and in Santa Monica, CA. She is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and Women in Leadership Council member with the American Staffing Association.


Carlos RojasCarlos Rojas, Senior Director of Software Engineering, Capital One
As Senior Director for Retail & Direct Technology, Carlos is a creative technology leader that embodies the leadership values encouraged and strived for at Capital One. He's a forward-thinking professional with a strong Engineering and Business background in the Financial, Telecom, Government and Health IT industries. Most recently while at Fannie Mae, he enabled Technology Paradigms (Tools and Standards) for Agile, DevOps, and Machine Learning. He also established the Out of Region Program to support the Resiliency and Data Center Transformation and led the Release Continuous Improvement Program resulting in improved time-to-market and cost efficiencies of nearly $30MM.  Outside of work Carlos is a sports fanatic, who loves motorcycle racing, triathlons to support cancer research, and playing soccer. Carlos is an active member of the Hispanic community, and participates in organizations like the Hispanic Executive Technology Council, Prospanica DC, and soon Capital One's HOLA group.

 

Elvis CordovaPanel Moderator: Elvis Cordova, President & Founder, Statecraft Strategies
Elvis Cordova is the President and Founder of Statecraft Strategies, a DC based consulting firm that advises organizations and municipalities on effective management practices and federal policy-making. A seasoned strategist with over 15 years of experience, Elvis has developed and implemented solutions for some of the most significant challenges facing the public and private sectors. In 2012, he was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve in various leadership roles at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He also served on the White Task Force for Puerto Rico, focusing on building public-private partnerships. Elvis started his federal career as a Presidential Management Fellow at the Farm Credit Administration and later at the US Department of Energy. Elvis also worked as a financial analyst at the Harvard Management Company and as a consultant for the United Nations, where he concentrated on trade development strategies for emerging markets. He is a recipient of the Woodrow Wilson Graduate Fellowship, holds an MPA from New York University’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and a BS in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University. He also holds various professional certificates from Harvard University, Georgetown University and other international programs*
